Most tints get their coverage from white mineral particles that sit on the surface and scatter visible light. On deep and melanin-rich skin, that scatter reads as a gray, chalky veil, and the deeper the tone, the more obvious it gets. The second betrayal is chemistry: iron-oxide pigments react with your skin's own oils through the day and shift darker and oranger, so a perfect match in the morning turns wrong by lunch.
